MASHLM director Prof. Paulo Gonçalves presented Evidence-Based Policy Design for HIV/AIDS Response Programs in Côte d’Ivoire at the Systems Dynamics Conference in Delft in July.
This research is an extension of MASHLM 05 graduate Simplice Kamdem's master's thesis where Prof. Gonçalves and Simplice developed "a formal system dynamics model capturing the evolution of HIV/AIDS in Cote d’Ivoire with data spanning 25 years." The model allowed them to evaluate different policies for reducing HIV/AIDS in a country known to have an alarmingly high rate of transmission.
Simplice plans to now build on this research as a PHD student at the UNESCO Chair Center for Peace at Felix-Boigny University in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire where he will continue to use system dynamics to address health issues in Africa.
